There’s not many people that don’t love chocolate mousse. Our Avocado Chocolate Mousse is easy to make and a healthy alternative for this family favourite.
This GPA Wholefoods dessert combines the flavour of chocolate and the texture of a mousse but in a new and healthy way. This recipe is the perfect way to give your family a firm favourite without the nasties. The avocado, also known as an alligator pear or butter fruit, is the only fruit that provides a substantial amount of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). Avocados are a naturally nutrient-dense food and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals and turn their hand easily to both savoury and sweet dishes.
Thankfully Nourished New Zealand Gelatin
Avocado Chocolate Mousse
Serves 4 Prep: 10 mins (+3 hours in fridge)
2 tbs hot water
3 tsp Thankfully Nourished New Zealand gelatin
2 ripe avocados
½ cup Dutch Process cocoa
¼ cup maple syrup
½ cup coconut cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
Shaved fresh coconut to serve
Pour water into a small bowl. Sprinkle over the gelatin and leave to dissolve for 5 mins. Place juice gelatin mixture in a small pan and gently heat until the gelatin is smooth. Careful not to let the mixture boil. Remove from heat.
Place avocado flesh, cocoa, maple syrup, coconut cream and vanilla extract in a food processor and process until smooth. Slowly add the gelatin as the processor runs.
Spoon into 4 serving dishes and refrigerate for 3 hours.
Garnish with shaved coconut.
